AVIF Compressor — Browser-Based Image Export

Work with an AVIF source without uploading it. AVIF decoding and export are separate browser capabilities; a browser may display AVIF yet be unable to encode it.

01 YOUR IMAGELOCAL PROCESSING

Make room for a smaller image.

Drag your image here, or choose one or more files.

JPG · PNG · WebP · AVIF · HEIC/HEIF · GIF · SVG · PDF — up to 20 MB
Your images stay on your device. No file uploads.

How to use this workflow

  1. Choose an AVIF image. If decoding fails, try a browser that supports your source.
  2. Select quality and optional width. AVIF output is checked against the actual encoded MIME type.
  3. If export is unsupported, choose WebP or PNG rather than downloading a mislabeled file.

What to check before saving

AVIF and WebP use different encoders. Compare actual detail and bytes at your intended dimensions instead of comparing matching quality percentages. AVIF export is not guaranteed in every browser. Transparent pixels are retained when the selected encoder supports them.

Inputs are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, SVG and selected PDF pages are supported. Exports are JPG, PNG, WebP or browser-supported AVIF; animation and source metadata are not retained.

Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. Normal website requests still reach the hosting service. Read the privacy policy.

Questions & answers

Why can I view AVIF but not save AVIF?

Browsers can support AVIF decoding without a canvas AVIF encoder. This tool detects an unsupported encoder and asks you to choose another output.

Can I convert AVIF to WebP?

Yes, when the browser can decode the source. Choose WebP output and inspect the result. This creates a new lossy copy, not a lossless container change.

Diagnose your exported file

Match the symptom to the next action. These checks describe this tool’s current implementation; they are not a guarantee that another website will accept the result.

The source opens, but AVIF export fails.

Decoding AVIF and encoding AVIF are different browser capabilities. The tool checks the returned file type instead of silently labeling another format as AVIF.

Next action: Choose WebP or JPG and run the export again. If AVIF is mandatory, use an encoder that explicitly supports AVIF output; changing browsers is not a guarantee.

If the result still fails, report the exact error and your browser. Include the settings and output dimensions, but do not send private images or identity documents.
