JPG Compressor — Compress JPEG Photos Online

Prepare a smaller photographic copy with JPG output already selected. JPG and JPEG are two extensions for the same image format.

01 YOUR IMAGELOCAL PROCESSING

Make room for a smaller image.

Drag your image here, or choose one or more files.

JPG · PNG · WebP · AVIF · HEIC/HEIF · GIF · SVG · PDF — up to 20 MB
Your images stay on your device. No file uploads.

How to use this workflow

  1. Select your photo and start with the 80% quality setting. Keep the width large enough for the intended display.
  2. For a strict upload limit, choose a KB preset. The compressor may lower quality; dimensions shrink further only if you enable that option.
  3. Inspect faces, fine textures and text. If artifacts are distracting, increase quality or allow a larger file.

What to check before saving

Repeatedly saving an already compressed JPG can accumulate damage. Export from your best original each time. This tool re-encodes pixels; it does not offer lossless JPEG recompression.

Inputs are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, SVG and selected PDF pages are supported. Exports are JPG, PNG, WebP or browser-supported AVIF; animation and source metadata are not retained.

Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. Normal website requests still reach the hosting service. Read the privacy policy.

Questions & answers

How do I reduce a JPG to 200KB for an upload form?

Select one photo, choose JPG output and set the target to 200 KB. Check the form’s minimum width and height before allowing extra resizing. After processing, check that the result is at most 200,000 bytes and still meets those dimensions. If either requirement fails, retry from the original with different settings; acceptance is not guaranteed.

Is JPG compression lossless?

This JPG workflow is lossy. Lower quality or fewer pixels may be acceptable for sharing, but they do not preserve every original detail.

Can I compress a transparent logo as JPG?

You can export it, but transparent areas become white. Use PNG or WebP when transparent edges are required.

Diagnose your exported file

Match the symptom to the next action. These checks describe this tool’s current implementation; they are not a guarantee that another website will accept the result.

Text looks fuzzy even though the file fits.

JPEG encoding can remove detail around sharp edges. A byte limit alone does not check readability.

Next action: Return to the original, select No limit, and compare a higher quality setting. For screenshots, compare PNG at the required dimensions before choosing the smaller copy.

A transparent background turned white.

JPEG cannot store transparency. This tool fills the canvas with white before encoding JPG.

Next action: Export from the original as PNG or WebP. Converting the white JPG back to PNG will not restore its missing transparency.

If the result still fails, report the exact error and your browser. Include the settings and output dimensions, but do not send private images or identity documents.
