Image Compressor — Reduce Photo Size for Email
Make lighter copies of your images for websites and sharing. Choose the output format explicitly, use a byte target for a single image when needed, and inspect the output before replacing any asset.
Make room for a smaller image.

JPG · PNG · WebP · AVIF · HEIC/HEIF · GIF · SVG · PDF — up to 20 MBHow to use this workflow
- Upload one image for detailed comparison, or select multiple images for a batch.
- Choose quality and format. Set maximum width at or above the original width and disable extra target-driven resizing to retain dimensions within the 8192-pixel width limit.
- Compress, compare actual bytes and visual detail, and download. Batch results also offer a ZIP.
What to check before saving
Lossy JPG, WebP and AVIF encoding trades some image detail for size. PNG keeps transparency but may not shrink without resizing. For a website, choose dimensions for the actual display; for social media, check the destination requirements.
Inputs are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, SVG and selected PDF pages are supported. Exports are JPG, PNG, WebP or browser-supported AVIF; animation and source metadata are not retained.
Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. Normal website requests still reach the hosting service. Read the privacy policy.
Questions & answers
How do I reduce photo size for email?
Choose JPG for ordinary photos unless the recipient needs transparency. For a single image, set a KB target and reduce maximum width only when full resolution is unnecessary. For several photos, compare the combined size of all exports with the recipient’s attachment limit and leave room for the rest of the message. Preview each image, attach the downloaded copies and keep the originals.
Does compression always make files smaller?
No. Already optimized files can grow. Compare the reported bytes and keep the original when the new copy is larger.
Which format should I use?
JPG suits photos and broad compatibility. PNG suits transparent graphics. WebP is useful for modern websites. AVIF can be efficient but browser encoding support varies.

Reduce image size for uploads, email and online shops
How do I compress an image to 5 MB?
Enter 5000 in Target file size KB: this tool uses decimal units, so 5 MB is 5,000 KB. Choose JPG for a photo, or WebP if the destination accepts it. Compress and check the actual result. If the target is missed, allow smaller dimensions only when the destination permits them. The target is a maximum to aim for, not a guaranteed or padded output size.
How do I reduce photo size for email without uploading it?
Choose a JPG copy for broad compatibility, start at 80% quality, and reduce maximum width if the recipient does not need the original resolution. Compare faces and fine detail before downloading. A batch of up to 20 images can be saved as a ZIP, but the total attachment must still fit your provider’s limit. Keep full-size originals for printing.
How do I batch compress JPG photos for email?
Select up to 20 photos and choose JPG output for broad compatibility. Start with a width suitable for viewing and a moderate quality setting. Each image has its own content and file size: inspect every result and the total ZIP size before attaching it. Compression does not send an email or bypass attachment limits.
How should I optimise product images for an online shop?
Check the shop’s required dimensions and accepted formats first. Use the image resizer for a smaller proportional copy, then compare JPG and WebP at the actual display size. Check product textures, labels and transparent edges. Reuse your chosen settings across a batch, but review each result: different photographs do not compress to the same size.
For smaller form limits, use compress image to 100 KB or compress image to 200 KB. Minimum dimensions and file-size limits are separate requirements.
